Summer is coming, whether you like it or not.
It’s been 2 months since we all started our new years resolutions and I truly hope it’s going well, however if you’re one of the 80% that have decided to give up getting fit by the end of February, then continue to read on, because here is my advice on how to achieve your summer body!
#1.
Have a deadline. If you are time restricted, you are more likely to be motivated and achieve your weight loss goal. Whether it be looking good on the beach, a wedding, party or some other social event, having something to work towards really boosts your motivation.
#2.
Keep it simple. Be clear on what you want, often people come to me and tell me that they want to lose weight whilst putting on muscle and unfortunately, the two do not compliment each other. Speak to an expert about what you want; any good personal trainer will be able to help and educate you.
#3.
Calories matter. There are, unfortunately, health and fitness professionals out there that tell us that you can eat what you want as long as you exercise. Sadly this is not true, you cannot outrun a bad diet. You also can’t outrun a calorie surplus if you’re trying to drop fat. Eat less calories than you burn and you will lose weight, eat more calories than you burn and you will put on weight. It’s that simple.
#4.
Keep track. Make sure you track your progress. Whether it’s body weight, waist measurements, photographs or if you’re lucky enough to have a scales at your home/gym that tells you muscle mass and body fat %. However, when weighing yourself, always use the same scales and weigh yourself at the same time of day to be as accurate as possible. Take photographs every 4-6 weeks and compare to monitor your progress. Don’t get disheartened if you don’t see much of a difference, show someone you trust, let them see if they can see a difference, sometimes we are to hard on ourselves.
#5.
Ask for help. Finally, don’t be one of these people that are too scared to reach out for help. You are not destined to be ‘chunky’. Speak to a personal trainer about your wants and needs, they should be able to outline what you need to do. Think about hiring a personal trainer; if they are good and you follow their advice, you will get the body you deserve!
